Randi Skaug

On May 20, 2004, Randi Skaug from Åsbygda became the first Norwegian woman to summit Mt. Everest. The expedition had one goal: Mastery.

Randi is the outsider who conquered the world’s highest mountain. No one in the mountaineering community had heard of her before. Most likely, no one would have bet on her either. But she tells her story not with pride, but with gratitude. Thanks to the Nepalese mountain guides Tshering Pande Bhote and Jyamchang Bhote, she made it all the way to the top - and all the way home - alive.

Randi was the first woman to complete Amundsen’s route across Hardangervidda, the one he himself never managed to finish. In 2007, she completed the Seven Summits - the highest mountain on each continent. After traveling across all the world’s continents and in more than 70 countries, she defined Norway as her most important expedition country.

The kayak SAKTERUTA took Randi to Northern Norway and on an exciting journey from Rørvik to Russia over three summers from 2012 to 2014. The journey brought both learning and love. The Northern Norwegian spirit, the light, and the landscape were simply addictive. In 2015, Randi bought the island of Naustholmen in Steigen to create an experience destination. The idea was to share her own experiences with others and offer powerful encounters with nature and a warm sense of community.
