The Story about Brynje and the World's very first mesh shirt.
The family-owned company Brynje from Larvik in Norway has been world-renowned for quality, functionality, and durability since 1887. This year Jacob Jacobsen came ashore in Larvik and established "J. Jacobsen Trikotasje & Konfeksjon".
The World's very first mesh shirt resembled the historic Viking armour known as “Brynje” and was invented by Henrik Brun from Uvdal in 1921. The Brynje shirt was further developed in collaboration with the Norwegian Armed Forces and quickly became an essential part of the gear for demanding expeditions. When Hillary and Tenzing climbed Mt. Everest as the first humans in 1953, they wore Brynje mesh next to their skin. Mesh clothing is Henrik Brun’s invention, but today there are many Brynje-like copies on the market. At Brynje, you can be 100% sure you’re getting the genuine, original mesh developed by Brynje.
Today, Brynje’s clothing is used by the world's leading polar guides, cold expeditions and people in tough professions. When Brynje's garments perform in the coldest places on Earth, they will certainly work for you too.
Nature and social responsibility
Social responsibility, nature and environmental considerations are the basis for all of Brynje's operations. It sits in the backbone of our employees and governs all the small and large decisions we make on a daily basis.
Brynje makes clothes of high quality so that they last as long as possible. The rest is up to you. Wear the clothes for a long time, follow the washing instructions and repair. That's good, both for nature and the wallet.
