- The down jacket is robust and warm, designed for cold expeditions and high‑mountain use. The jacket has been developed in collaboration with experienced polar guides and provides excellent protection against weather and wind.
- I used the down parka on hiking trips and ski tours in December and January. During the test period, the weather was cold, ranging from -23°C to -8-10 °C. I have previously tested other types of down parkas and found that I became somewhat cold around the stomach when wind and drafts crept up under the jackets while walking or standing in headwinds. That did not happen with this jacket. The construction and the elastic drawcord adjusters at the hem on both sides ensure that the jacket fits snugly and can be tightened closely around the thighs and seat, completely preventing drafts.
- This is a specialized insulation garment, intended for use in extreme cold when activity levels are low. For example, during stationary photography, ice fishing, breaks on long trips, or when setting up camp after a day’s march. This is an extreme jacket - a voluminous monster jacket. The parka is so warm that it should only be used on the coldest days. I tested it on day hikes at -10°C, and it was not a success. The parka was so warm that I overheated. Opening the zipper helps a little, but it is still too warm.
- The hood is large and thick. When tightened, it covers the entire head and face, leaving only a small opening for the eyes and nose. Absolutely wonderful in rough weather!
- The parka is large and takes up considerable space in a backpack or pulk. At the same time, it is easy to compress and pack down.
I would describe the Brynje Expedition Down Parka 2.0 as an extreme monster jacket. Putting it on feels like slipping into the upper half of a winter sleeping bag (with arms). This is the warmest garment I have ever worn. At the very least, freezing during breaks on trips is now a thing of the past. A down jacket that provides a strong sense of safety and security when venturing out on the coldest days.
